Commercial Interior painting can vary substantially. Adjusting start times to low or no traffic hours always comes first. Then the paint product needs to be chosen, always considering appearance, durability, washablity, and sometimes, in hospitals and medical offices, hyper sensitivity to off gassing of the paint vehicle. Even when there are no workers or customers present, there may be a need to erect a temporary plastic barrier if there will be sanding dust or fumes from solvent based paints.

Strict adherence to the prearranged schedule is always important. Meeting rooms need to be ready, Hospital rooms are vacated on a rotating schedule and must be finished and dry when they are to come back "on line". Sometimes the work can be done late at night or on weekends, but in the case of hospitals and hotels, blocks of rooms must be taken out of service at a prearranged schedule, and the work must stay on schedule to bring the units back on line as expected.

Fortunately, modern paints and varnishes set up and dry quickly. They sometimes have longer cure time before they acquire maximum hardness, but the likelihood that someone will come in contact with wet paint is greatly reduced.

(There are even paints available that are antimicrobial. Sherwin Williams Paint Shield: is a notable example of an EPA-registered antimicrobial paint that kills 99.9% of bacteria on contact within two hours.)
